Laser Hair Removal
Athens GA's Premier Laser Hair Removal Medspa
There are many ways to get rid of unwanted body hair – shaving, hair removal creams, and waxing are just a few that are commonly used. While these are effective, the results are short-lived and can leave your skin itchy and sometimes smelling unpleasant.
These hair removal methods are also inconvenient in the long run. Electrolysis can give you longer-lasting results, but the treatments are painful and time-consuming. Laser hair removal, on the other hand, is a permanent hair reduction method that’s quick and convenient.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal uses a concentrated beam of light to find the pigment (melanin) in hair follicles.
The light energy targets and destroys the hair follicles (hair roots) and thereby delays or stops hair growth.
As a result, after only a few sessions of laser hair removal, you can experience dramatic hair reduction and decrease the need for those ancient hair removal methods mentioned above.
Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is suitable for most people, with a few exceptions. In general, people with lighter skin and darker hair colors get the best results.
This is because the laser can find the pigment in the hair follicles more accurately in light-skinned/dark-haired individuals. However, those with darker skin or lighter hair can also get laser hair removal.
Newer laser technologies have made it possible to get great results in all skin types and skin tones. To ensure you are a candidate for laser hair removal, we encourage everyone to come in for a consultation with our State-Licensed Aesthetician, Tabatha Bourchier, LE, so you can discuss your goals and arrive at a plan together.
Can laser hair removal be done on the whole body?
Yes, laser hair removal can be done on the whole body. The most common areas where people get laser hair removal are the upper lip, chin, arms, armpits, bikini line, and legs.
How long does laser hair removal take?
Each laser hair removal session takes around 10 minutes for smaller areas like the upper lip or chin and 45-60 minutes for larger body parts like the arms and legs.
What should you not do before laser hair removal?
You should avoid tweezing, threading, waxing, or using depilatory creams for 6 weeks before your laser treatment.
Also, avoid sun exposure as much as possible (use sun protection when you are outdoors).
In addition, avoid skincare products like peels, scrubs, tanning creams, and retinol creams in the days leading up to your laser hair removal appointment.
What hurts worse – laser or waxing?
Laser hair removal is far less painful than waxing. Most people describe the laser treatment as a warmth or pinprick sensation in the skin. What’s more, laser hair removal is a longer-term solution compared to painful methods of hair removal like waxing.
What do I need to do after laser hair removal?
After laser hair removal, the best thing to do is avoid heat (saunas, hot showers, or gym workouts) for the first 24 hours.
Our team will give you skincare instructions, which may be a little different from your usual routine. Between sessions, you can shave unwanted hair, but you should not tweeze or wax.
Basically, the idea is to leave the hair root undisturbed between laser hair removal sessions.
How many sessions of laser hair removal are enough?
Most people at Blue Spiral medspa need 6-10 sessions to get optimal results from laser hair removal. The laser only targets actively growing hair follicles.
Multiple sessions are therefore needed to ensure that all the hair follicles get caught in the growth phase and destroyed.
Laser hair removal sessions need to be spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The entire treatment can take a few months to complete.
Following the initial series of treatments, you can return for a maintenance laser hair removal session every year or so to stay smooth and hair-free.
Can I shave between laser sessions?
You can shave between laser hair removal sessions to get rid of any hairs that escaped the laser. As you move further along with your treatments, you will notice that you need to shave less frequently.
Your aesthetician will also ask you to shave before your laser hair removal session. This is to prevent hairs from getting singed (burnt) by the laser and make the treatment more effective.
What is different about laser hair removal at Blue Spiral?
There are a ton of laser hair removal machines on the market, and some of them are ancient by technology standards. At Blue Spiral Medical Spa, we have invested in the latest laser technology from Sciton, the leader in laser and energy devices.
We use the Forever Bare BBL from Sciton, which uses motion technology to deliver a lower energy pulse multiple times. This makes the treatment more comfortable as the multiple pulses protect the skin while progressively raising the follicle temperature to the optimal level for hair removal. This technology is in stark contrast to older technology which uses a high level of energy in one pulse at a time.
